Following on from one of our previous blogs, 5 Things to Do in La Zenia, Spain. It is now the turn of its adjoining noisy neighbour, Cabo Roig. Situated close to the major airports of Alicante and Murcia lies the beach resort/strip/neighbourhood of Cabo Roig on the Southern Costa Blanca. If you pass through on the N332 highway, you may be forgiven for thinking that it is similar to many Spanish resort towns. Walking on Sunshine!
If you are physically able there is nothing better than enjoying a long walk to get some fresh air, taking in your surroundings and simply clearing the mind. Walking you may say? You can do that almost anywhere! True, but Cabo Roig is certainly an interesting place to take a ramble. From the madness of the ‘strip” where you can people watch as you pass a multitude of bars and restaurants, to the serenity of the coastal walk only a few hundred metres away from the madness.
The coastal walk is stunning and leads you for kilometre upon kilometre as you stare out to the mighty Mediterranean. Aside from the stunning views of the marina and the Cabo Roig Watchtower, (which is a part of the Cabo Roig restaurant overlooking the marina) the almost constant sunshine year round makes it a great place to walk anytime of year. Even on a dull day it is worth a trip. If you love walking this is the place for you!
Shop for a Bargain
Walk around many Spanish resorts and you will find the countless street traders from Africa and beyond selling anything from sunglasses to sombreros. The ‘looky looky’ men, as they are affectionately known, have been part of life around Spanish resorts for many years. In Cabo Roig you will find innumerable, but they are generally good natured and open to some haggling and conversation. There is a small night market set up each evening too selling souvenirs to take home some memories and mementos.
If this isn’t enough there is a weekly market held on Thursday mornings where shopping needs can be satisfied. If trinkets are not your thing, and you have a little more cash to splash, then you can always pop into the helpful team at Home Pandora Real Estate who might even help you permanently own a piece of this wonderful region. Where else can you watch Rod Stewart, George Michael and Phil Collins live on stage all in one week? Yes you have guessed it, in Cabo Roig! Obviously not the real performers but they do an incredible job imitating these music legends. They certainly know how to get a crowd going. Y.O.L.O Bar is the place to be any night of the week, but you better get in early as it is hard to find a seat when these guys are performing. Throw in some delicious food and drinks at reasonable prices and you’ve got the lot.
Cabo Roig has it all sewn up entertainment wise for the young and young at heart. For those on a stag tripthere are plenty of bars along the strip with live music and sports shown all throughout the day and night, and for a little late night entertainment there are late bars, niteclubs and gentlemens’ clubs to keep you entertained. It may not be Las Vegas but whatever happens in Cabo Roig stays in Cabo Roig!

Go down to the local beach and you will find crystal clear waters and soft sand beneath your feet, perfect for that lazy day relaxing in the sunshine. Cabo Roig is known for its clean blue flag beaches and is popular for tourists from Northern Europe as well as the residents of the neighbouring region of Murcia who often flock to the beaches at the weekends.
There are a few beaches one can visit while vacationing in Cabo Roig. Such as Playa Cala Capitan and Playa Cala Caleta which are clean and safe for children. Only short training is needed, then you will be ready to go. Stand up paddle boarding is an activity for all the family. Neither physique nor strength is decisive, you will quickly get a good sense of balance following some good tips using the wide boards.
